〘Noun〙 A title of a position in the Edo Shogunate. One of the Magistrates of Distant Provinces (Ongoku Bugyo) who was in charge of matters in Ezo. Established in 1802 , it was soon renamed Hakodate Magistrate and then Matsumae Magistrate. 〘名〙 江戸幕府の職名。蝦夷地のことをつかさどった遠国奉行(おんごくぶぎょう)の一つ。享和二年（一八〇二）に設置、間もなく箱館奉行、ついで松前奉行と改称。蝦夷地奉行。※諸御役代々記（江戸末か）一六（古事類苑・官位七四）「蝦夷奉行 御役名箱館奉行并松前奉行と替る」
