The first Saxon king of Germany (reigned 919-936). Known as the "King of Birds" and "King of City Builders." Father of Otto I (the Great). He ascended to the throne at the recommendation of the first German king, Conrad I, and the recommendation of the Frankish and Saxon princes. He built numerous fortresses on the eastern and northern borders, repelled foreign enemies, and built the foundations of the German Kingdom.

ザクセン朝初代のドイツ国王（在位919年―936年）。捕鳥王，都市建設王と称される。オットー１世（大帝）の父。初代ドイツ国王コンラート１世の指名とフランク，ザクセン諸侯の推挙で即位。東部・北部の辺境に多数の城塞(じょうさい)を設置，外敵を撃退し，ドイツ王国の基礎を築いた。
