Henry Mayers Hyndman

British socialist. Founder of the Social Democratic League. Born in London. His father was a barrister. Influenced by Marx, he became a socialist and founded the Democratic League in 1881, which he further developed into the Social Democratic League, of which he became a central leader. After that, he aimed to introduce the theory of Marxist socialism and organize it through these organizations, but his position was not necessarily in harmony with Marx, and his dictatorial nature made the organization difficult to run, so he was unable to have a significant impact on the British socialist movement. During World War I, he took a patriotic stance and founded the National Socialist Party in 1916.

イギリスの社会主義者。社会民主連盟の創設者。ロンドンに生まれる。父は法廷弁護士。マルクスの影響を受けて社会主義者となり、1881年民主連盟を創設、さらにこの組織を発展させて社会民主連盟とし、その中心的指導者となった。以後、彼はこれらの組織を通してマルクス主義的な社会主義の理論的紹介、組織化を志したが、その立場はかならずしもマルクスと相和するところとはならず、またその独裁的性格もあって組織運営も円滑には進まず、イギリスの社会主義運動に大きな影響を与えることはできなかった。第一次世界大戦中は愛国主義的立場をとり、1916年に国民社会主義党を結成した。
