A literary movement started in late 17th-century Italy by poets who had gathered in Rome from all over the country. Led by Cresimbeni and Gravina, they rejected the eloquence and pretense of Baroque literature, and sought to restore naturalness and simplicity to poetry, especially using pastoral poetry as a model. The movement quickly spread throughout Italy, but after the middle of the 18th century it lost its initial significance, and with the rise of the Enlightenment and Romanticism it came under heavy criticism and declined. Other representative poets include Maggi, Metastasio, and Menzini.

17世紀末のイタリアで，各地からローマに集ってきた詩人たちによって起された文学運動。クレシンベーニ，グラビーナらを中心に，バロック文学の饒舌と虚飾を排し，特に牧歌を範として自然さと素朴さとを詩のなかに回復しようとした。運動はたちまちイタリア全土に広まったが，18世紀なかばを過ぎると初期の意義を失い，啓蒙主義やロマン主義の台頭とともに激しい批判を浴びて衰退した。その他の代表詩人は，マッジ，メタスタージオ，メンツィーニなど。
