This chamber ensemble was formed in 1952 by musicians who graduated from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. Their performances are filled with bright tones and fresh expressions, and their performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in particular led to a reevaluation of Vivaldi and was a pioneer of today's trends in Baroque music. The orchestra does not have a conductor, but instead focuses on a concertmaster, the first of whom was Felix Ayo (1933- ) from Spain, who devoted himself to developing the orchestra until his retirement in 1968. Although their repertoire is mainly Baroque music, they also perform classical pieces such as those by Mozart.

1952年ローマのサンタ･チェチリア音楽院出身の楽人によって結成された室内合奏団。演奏は明るい音色と新鮮な表現に満ち，とくにビバルディの《四季》の演奏はビバルディの再評価とともにバロック音楽の今日の流行の先駆をなした。同楽団は指揮者をおかずコンサートマスターを中心に演奏が行われるが，その初代はスペイン出身のアーヨFelix Ayo(1933‐　)で，68年退団するまで同楽団の発展に尽くした。主にバロック音楽をレパートリーとしているが，モーツァルトなどの古典派の作品も手がけている。
