Poor water (English spelling)

Japanese: 浿水 - ばいすい（英語表記）Pèi shuǐ

The name of a river that existed on the border between China and Korea in ancient times. It is also called the Hu River. It was also the name of one of the prefectures under the Lelang Commandery established by Emperor Wu of Han. The name Hu was first seen in history in the Korean section of the Records of the Grand Historian, where it is written that "the old barrier of Liaodong was repaired again, and the border was established at the Hu River." This suggests that the Hu River was the border between the two countries during the Han dynasty. However, there are differences of opinion among historians regarding the interpretation of historical materials as to which river the Hu River should be compared to today, and there is still no consensus. In the Book of Han and the Tongdian, the Maji River, which sounds similar to Hu River, is also written as the Yalu River, and it is written that the river flows south of the internal capital and flows southwest into the sea, so many scholars believe that this is another name for Hu River, and that Hu River refers to the Yalu River.

古代，中国と朝鮮との境界に存在した河川の名称。浿江ともよぶ。また漢の武帝設立の楽浪郡属県の一名称。浿水の名称が史上に初見するのは《史記》朝鮮伝で，〈復（ま）た遼東の故塞を修め，浿水に至りて界と為す〉と記され，漢代には浿水が2国の国境となっていたことが推察される。しかしその浿水を現在のどの河川に比定すべきかについては，史料の解釈をめぐって史家により見解を異にし，いまだに定説をみない。《漢書》や《通典（つてん）》には浿水と類似音の馬訾水が一名鴨緑江と記され，国内城の南を経て西南して海に注ぐとあるので，これが浿水の別称で浿水は鴨緑江をさすという立場の学者が多い。
