Chisel - Chisel

Japanese:
Chisel - Chisel
It is a general term for tools used to bore holes in wood or stone or to scrape the surface of materials, but the one used by metalworkers and stonemasons is called a chisel (see image). Along with axes, chisels are one of the oldest tools used, and chisel-shaped stone tools were used to make things like dugout boats during the Jomon period, and they were quickly replaced by iron tools during the Yayoi period. Chisels consist of a blade and a handle, but both parts of a chisel are one piece made of iron. This is called a common handle. All blades for woodworking are single-edged, but chisels are double-edged. The blade is inserted into the handle, but hammering chisels used for hammering have a crown (iron ring) attached to the end of the handle and a ferrule fitted into the handle.
