Year of death: June 23, 1526 (August 1, 1526) Year of birth: Bunmei 3 (1471) A military commander in the Sengoku period. There is a theory that he was born in 1473 (Bunmei 5). His father was Imagawa Yoshitada, the Shugo of Suruga Province, and his mother was Kitagawadono, the younger sister of Hojo Soun. His childhood name was Ryuomaru, and he was commonly known as Hikogoro and Goro. His official titles and titles were Kazusa no Suke and later Shuri no Taifu. Following his father's unexpected death in Bunmei 8, he took refuge in Ogawa Castle in Suruga Province for a time, but in 1487 (Chokyo 1) he began to govern the country as head of the family with the help of his uncle Hojo Soun. The document issued at this time was stamped with a seal of unknown inscription, which is known as the first use of a military commander's seal in the Sengoku period. He also attempted to transform himself from a Shugo daimyo into a Sengoku daimyo by carrying out land surveys and establishing the provincial law "Kana Mokuroku." In 1494, he began invading Totomi, and in 1501, he defeated the combined forces of the Shiba clan, the governor of Totomi, and the Ogasawara clan, the governor of Shinano, and in 1517, he pacified Totomi. In his later years, he was bedridden with a stroke, and his wife, Kotobuki-ni, assisted him. (Tetsuo Owada) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
