Representative species include A. bainesii Th.Dyer, which can grow up to 20 m in height, A. dichotoma L., which has a trunk diameter of over 1 m in old plants, and A. pillansii L., which is similar but has few branches. The leaves of all species are fleshy, usually developing into a rosette shape, and have sawtooth edges, but a few species also have thorn-like projections on the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves. …
