Neman River (English spelling)

Japanese: ネマン[川]（英語表記）Neman

A river that flows from Belarus to Lithuania and empties into the Baltic Sea. In Lithuania, it is called the Namnas River. It is 937 km long and has a drainage area of 98,200 km2. It first flows south from the southern Minsk Hills (altitude about 340 m), then west, turns north, makes a sharp bend, passes Kaunas, and then flows westward into the Kursky Lagoon in the Baltic Sea. The downstream part of the river is a large delta for about 40 km below Sovetsk, and is divided into several branches, but 80% of the water volume is accounted for by the right bank (north bank) branch, the Nyaris River, with an average annual flow rate of 685 m3/s.

ベラルーシからリトアニアに流れ，バルト海に注ぐ川。リトアニアではナムナス川と呼ぶ。長さ937km，流域面積9万8200km2。はじめミンスク丘陵南部(標高約340m)から南，ついで西に流れ始め，北に向きをかえ，激しく曲流してカウナスを過ぎ，さらに西に流れてバルト海のクルスキー潟に注ぐ。最下流部のソビエツク以下約40kmは大きなデルタで，いくつかの分流に分かれるが，水量の80％を占めるのは右岸(北岸)分流のニャリス川，流量は年平均685m3/sである。
