Mouseeater (Mouse Eater) - Mulgara

Japanese: ネズミクイ(鼠喰) - ネズミクイ（英語表記）mulgara

At first glance it resembles a mouse, but it is a small marsupial mammal of the Dyscopus family with a sturdy body, short limbs, a long, pointed snout, and a long black tuft on the upper surface of the tip of the tail. The fur is thin and soft, and is grayish-brown or reddish-brown in color. There is a white border around the eyes. The brood pouch is little more than a horizontal fold of skin and is poorly developed. It is 13-14.8 cm long, 8.5-13 cm long, and weighs around 150 g. It lives in burrows that it digs in the desert regions of southern and central Australia.

一見ネズミに似るが，体のつくりががっしりしていて，四肢が短く，吻（ふん）が長くとがり，尾の先半分の上面に長い黒色の房毛（ふさげ）がある有袋目フクロネコ科の小哺乳類。毛は細く柔らかく，茶ねずみ色ないし赤褐色。目の周囲に白のふちどりがある。育児囊は，横にのびる皮膚のひだ程度で，発達が悪い。体長13～14.8cm，尾長8.5～13cm，体重150g前後。オーストラリア南部と中央部の砂漠地帯に巣穴を掘ってすむ。
