A scholar and physician in the late Edo period. His pen name was Doi and he went by the name Rakusuido. He was born in 1790 in Kozuke Province (Gunma Prefecture) into a family of wealthy farmers. He studied medicine under Okuma Shosen and Isono Kodo (1772-1847) and opened a practice in Kawagoe, Bushu (Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture). He later became blind and was made a medical inspector. He went to Edo, lived in Yushima, and was called Miyoshinojocho. He was well-known for his deep knowledge of Japanese and Chinese literature, having studied under Hayashi Jutsusai. He is known for writing works such as "Shinanado no Kaze" (1830) and "Kokuikoubenmou" (1831), in which he criticized the Japan-centrism and anti-Confucianism of scholars of Japanese classics such as Kamo no Mabuchi and Motoori Norinaga from the standpoint of Shinju-Confucian unity. He died of illness on December 17, 1859. He is buried at Shokei-ji Temple in Shitaya, Tokyo.
