Medieval French legal bureaucrats. They appeared in the second half of the 13th century under the Capetian monarchy and played a prominent role until the first half of the 14th century. With the strengthening of royal power in 13th-century France and the development of legal education and research, bureaucrats with specialized legal knowledge gathered around the king. Jurisprudence was Roman law, which finally began to establish methods of systematic application during this period, and it advocated universal application, even in the realm of customary feudal law. On the other hand, the monarchy sought the principle of national unification in order to overcome the dispersion of feudal power, and Philip IV (reigned 1285-1314) in particular sought results through various policies.

中世フランスの法曹官僚。カペー朝王権のもとで，13世紀後半に姿を現し，14世紀前半まで顕著な役割を果たした。13世紀フランスにおける王権の強化と，法学教育･研究の発展とによって，国王の周辺に専門的法学知識をもつ官僚が集結した。法学とは，この時代にようやく体系的適用の手法を確立しはじめたローマ法学であり，慣習的封建法の圏域にいたるまで，普遍的適用を主張した。他方，王権は封建的権力分散を克服すべく，国家統合原理を求めており，とりわけフィリップ4世(在位1285‐1314)は，諸政策を通じて成果を目ざしていた。
