Shukuin - Shukuin

Japanese: 宿院 - しゅくいん

This area is located in the center of the old moated urban area in Sakai Ward, Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. It was originally the property of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine (Sumiyoshi Ward, Osaka City), and as a travel center for the shrine, it holds a portable shrine procession every year on August 1st during the Sumiyoshi Festival, from which the area name is derived. The Hankai Electric Tramway and National Route 26 pass through the area, and the former residence of Sen no Rikyu is located near Shukuin Station.

大阪府堺市(さかいし)堺区、旧環濠(かんごう)内市街地のほぼ中央の地区。もと住吉(すみよし)大社（大阪市住吉区）の社領で、同社の旅所(たびしょ)として、毎年8月1日の住吉祭には神輿(みこし)の渡御(とぎょ)があり、地名はこれに由来する。阪堺(はんかい)電軌、国道26号が通じ、宿院駅の近くに千利休屋敷跡がある。
