〘 noun 〙① A simple teahouse with a reed mat shed on the roadside or in the grounds of a shrine or temple. It has a bench and benches where passersby can rest and are served hot tea. Kakechaya. *Ukiyo- zoshi , Koshoku Seisui-ki (1688), vol. 5 "The mouth and nose of the koshikakechaya (teahouse that serves tea on a bench) have heard that it has been like this from the beginning."② During the Edo period, this was a teahouse run on the benches of the magistrate's office. They were allowed to sell hot tea, mats, sandals, writing and paper to lawsuits waiting on the benches for their trials, and in return they cleaned the magistrate's office and the benches and also took on odd jobs. 〘名〙① 路傍、社寺の境内などに葭簀(よしず)張りの小屋がけした粗末な茶屋。縁台と腰掛を置いて、通行人を休ませ、湯茶を供する。掛茶屋。※浮世草子・好色盛衰記(1688)五「腰掛茶(コシカケチャ)屋の口鼻(かか)が、はじめよりの事とも聞耳立て」② 江戸時代、奉行所の腰掛②で、茶屋を営んだもの。裁判のため、腰掛で待つ訴訟人などに、湯茶、敷物、草履、筆紙などを売ることを認められ、その代わり奉行所や腰掛の掃除をし、また、雑用をも引き受けた。〔随筆・親子草(1797頃)〕
