...Used for various astronomical observations, as well as for compiling nautical almanacs and abbreviated astronomical calendars, they are the most accurate of their kind. In Japan, there is the "Celestial Position Table," but in other countries, there is the French calendar Connaissance des Temps (first published in 1679, published by the Bureau of Longitude), the English calendar Astronomical Ephemeris (formerly known as the Nautical Almanac, first published in 1767, published by the Greenwich Observatory), the German calendar Berliner Astronomisches Jahrbuch (first published in 1776, published by the Bureau of Astronomical Computing, ceased publication in 1959), the Spanish calendar Efemérides Astronomicas (formerly known as Almanaque Nautico, first published in 1791, published by the Naval Observatory), the American calendar American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac (first published in 1855, published by the Naval Observatory), the Soviet calendar Astronomicheskii Ezhegodnik (first published in 1922, published by the Institute for Theoretical Astronomy), and the Indian calendar Indian Ephemeris (first published in 1957, published by the Meteorological Bureau).
