Nuclear armaments

...Here, "security" refers to the act of preserving a nation's territory and protecting its political independence in response to the threat or use of force, and military force refers to the power a nation possesses for its security. After World War II, with the emergence of nuclear weapons, armaments came to be divided into nuclear and conventional armaments. However, during the Cold War, if an all-out nuclear war broke out between the two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, which possessed first-class nuclear armaments, it would have been inevitable that both nations, or even the entire world, would have been destroyed.
