A goddess in Chinese folk beliefs. Niangniang means mother, lady, empress, etc. Starting with Heavenly Mother (Mount Tai) Niangniang and Holy Mother (Heavenly Queen) Niangniang, there are the following according to their duties: Sending children Niangniang, descendants Niangniang (imparting children), [Ma] [Ma] Niangniang (breastfeeding), Gaze Niangniang (treatment of eye diseases), Wealth Niangniang (giving good fortune, longevity). Niangniang Temple is her shrine, and Niangniang Temple Festival is a ritual, the latter held in the third and fourth months of the lunar calendar, bustling with faith, entertainment, and business. Mazu, the patron goddess of navigation, is also revered as a mother goddess.

中国の民間信仰の女神。〈娘娘〉とは〈母〉〈貴婦人〉〈皇后〉などの意。天母（泰山）娘娘，聖母（天后）娘娘を筆頭に，職掌に応じて以下のようなものがある。送子娘娘・子孫娘娘（授子），【マー】【マー】娘娘（授乳），眼光娘娘（眼病治療），財福娘娘（施福・長寿）。娘娘廟はその祀所，娘娘廟会は祭祀で，後者は旧暦３，４月に開かれ，信心，娯楽，商売でにぎわう。なお，航海の守護女神媽祖も，同様に母神として崇敬される。
