A former town in Nima District, central Shimane Prefecture. The San'in Main Line runs through the town. The main settlement is Nima, facing the Sea of Japan, and fishing and seafood processing are thriving here. Beef cattle are raised and shiitake mushrooms are cultivated. Kotogahama is known for its singing sand, has a sand museum, and is also famous as a swimming beach. It is home to Yuzako Onsen. 島根県中部,邇摩(にま)郡の旧町。山陰本線が通じる。主集落は日本海に面する仁万(にま)で,漁業,水産加工が盛ん。肉用牛の飼育,シイタケ栽培を行う。琴ヶ浜は鳴り砂で知られ,砂博物館があり,海水浴場としても有名。湯迫(ゆざこ)温泉がある。2005年10月邇摩郡温泉津町と大田市へ編入。31.59km2。4931人(2003)。
