A system of music for banquets and ceremonies in the imperial court of the Tang Dynasty in China. Established during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong, it consists of eight pieces of standing music played in the palace (Anraku, Taipingraku - Goho Shishimai, Hajinraku, Keizenraku, Daijoraku, Shanggenraku, Shengshougaku, and Koseigaku) and six pieces of sitting music played in the hall (Enraku, Chojugaku, Tenjugaku, Choka Banzai-raku, Ryuchiraku, and Kohajinraku). It is a compilation of music and dance created during the reigns of each emperor from the beginning of the Tang Dynasty to Xuanzong. Based on the form of gagaku (Confucian ritual music), it incorporates ancient folk music and Hu music from the Western Regions. Some of it was introduced to Japan and became bugaku.
