Born on July 18, 1897. While studying at Tokyo Higher Normal School, he was an active marathon runner. After working as an assistant professor at Fifth Higher School and a sports director for Kumamoto Prefecture, he became an administrative officer in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Physical Fitness Bureau in 1939. In 1946, he became the promotion section chief of the Ministry of Education's Sports Bureau. He served as president of Nippon Sport Science University and president of the Japan Gymnastics Association. He passed away on August 23, 1974, at the age of 77. He was born in Wakayama Prefecture.
