A city located in the middle of Hyogo Prefecture, occupying the middle reaches of the Kakogawa River. It was incorporated as a city in 1952. It is served by the Kakogawa Line and the Chugoku Expressway. The city center is the heart of the Banshu textile industry, and produces 70% of the nation's largest amount of yarn-dyed cotton fabrics, such as gingham, and is also a thriving exporter. It also produces the nation's largest amount of its specialty fishing lines. In 1993, Japan Navel Park was opened, and the city is located at the intersection of 135 degrees east longitude and 35 degrees north latitude, making it the center of the Japanese archipelago. In October 2005, Kurodasho Town in Taka District was incorporated. 132.44 km2 . Population: 42,802 (2010).
