Years of birth: unknown. A kettle maker from the Momoyama period. He lived in Kamaza, Sanjo, Kyoto. He is said to have been a pupil of Nagoshi Jyosuke. He holds the title of Tenkaichi, and is famous as the teacher of Tsuji Yojiro, the kettle maker for Sen no Rikyu. Nishimura Michiji's "Kettle Maker's History" states that he was a kettle maker during the time of Takeno Jōō (1502-1555), Rikyu's teacher, and was Oda Nobunaga's kettle maker, and "Chado Sentei" states that he was Jōō's kettle maker and made the kettle "Sakuragawa." It is said that he also made kettles such as "Ariake" and "Kan", but these are no longer extant. Among the works bearing inscriptions, the giboshu of Mt. Haguro in Yamagata Prefecture, inscribed in 1593 (Bunroku 2), the temple bell of Honkokuji Temple in Kyoto, inscribed in 1605 (Keicho 10), the lantern of Myorenji Temple in Kyoto, inscribed in 1605, the temple bell of Senshoji Temple in Yamagata, in the same year, and the temple bell of Fukujuin Temple in Saitama, in the same year, are known.
