Nishinihon Shimbun - Nishinihon Shimbun

Japanese: 西日本新聞 - にしにほんしんぶん
Nishinihon Shimbun - Nishinihon Shimbun

A daily newspaper published by the Nishinippon Shimbun Company in Fukuoka City, with distribution areas throughout Kyushu and parts of the Chugoku region. It is one of Japan's three major regional newspapers, along with the Hokkaido Shimbun and the Chunichi Shimbun. The company has a long history, beginning with the Tsukushi Shimbun, which was first published on March 24, 1877 (Meiji 10). In 1880, it changed its title to the Fukuoka Nichi Nichi Shimbun, and boasted influence as one of the region's leading newspapers until World War II. In 1942 (Showa 17), it merged with the Kyushu Nippo (first published as the Fukuryo Shimbun in April 1887, and renamed the Kyushu Nippo in 1898) as part of a wartime newspaper consolidation, and published the first issue of the Nishinippon Shimbun on August 10, 1942, and has continued to publish to this day. Its page planning, which is based on information closely related to the Kitakyushu region and the motto of fair speech and truthful reporting, has always been widely supported by readers and has earned a high reputation in the newspaper industry. In addition to this paper, they also publish "Nishi Nippon Sports." They provide news to local television stations and play a central role in promoting local culture. The circulation is about 813,500 copies for the morning edition and about 129,600 copies for the evening edition (2010). They have the largest share of sales in Fukuoka Prefecture. They are second in Nagasaki and Saga, but in Fukuoka Prefecture, where they are the main distributors, the circulation of national newspapers is also increasing.
