Araki

Arak is a distilled alcoholic drink introduced from the Netherlands during the Edo period. It is said to be made by adding flavor to alcohol, or by adding cloves, cinnamon, or shouchu to it. 〘名〙 (arak) 江戸時代、オランダから渡来した蒸留酒。アルコールに香気をつけたもの、あるいは、丁子、肉桂、ういきょうなどを焼酎につけたものという。アラキざけ。※俳諧・桃青三百韻附両吟二百韻（1678）「花に嵐あらきちんたをあたためて〈信章〉 胸につかへし霞はれ行く〈信徳〉」
