II

(1909-1983). His real name was Shigeru Kondo. He was born in Tokyo. He trained as Onoe Shigeru, a disciple of Onoe Kikugoro VI, and studied dance under Fujima Kanjuro VI, and in 1931 (Showa 6) took the name Fujima Kanzaburo. After the death of the first head of the school, there was no head of the school, so he became the adopted son-in-law of Ishimatsu's grandson Shizu, an elder of the Nagoya Nishikawa school. After passing through the name of Nishikawa Shigeru, he took the name of Koizaburo, the second head of the school, in 1940. Immediately after the end of the war, he organized and established the Nagoya Odori, presided over the Koikaze-kai, and continued to choreograph and teach Hanamachi dance, including the Azuma Odori. He produced literary works as well as numerous dance dramas, and showed his unique brilliance in such works as "The Prostitute on the Boat," "Echizen Bamboo Doll," "Salmon - A Mother's Pity," as well as "Hanawaka," "Oriki," and "Nichomachi."
