Yamaoka Kagetomo

A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. The fourth son of Kageyuki. He started out as a monk at Miidera Temple, taking the name Senkei. After returning to secular life, he became Hachirozaemon and Bizen no Kami, and after shaving his head he took the name Doami. In 1572, he was appointed guardian of half of Yamashiro Province (Kyoto Prefecture). He sided with Ashikaga Yoshiaki and fought against Oda Nobunaga, but was defeated and became his subordinate. During the Honnoji Incident, he prevented Akechi Mitsuhide's army from entering Azuchi, and thereafter played an active role under Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In the Battle of Sekigahara, he fought bravely on the side of Tokugawa Ieyasu. He was particularly distinguished by his pursuit of Nagatsuka Masaie and his capture of Fukuchiyama Castle in Tanba Province (Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture), and was given land in Omi Province as a reward. He was also given a residence in Fushimi Castle, and welcomed Ieyasu in 1603.

安土桃山時代の武将。景之の4男。はじめは三井寺の僧として,暹慶を名乗る。還俗後は八郎左衛門,備前守となり,剃髪後は道阿弥を名乗った。元亀3(1572)年山城国(京都府)半国守護に補任される。足利義昭方にくみし,織田信長と交戦するが敗北,その配下となる。本能寺の変では,明智光秀軍の安土入りを妨げ,以降は豊臣秀吉の麾下となって活躍した。関ケ原の戦においては,徳川家康方について奮戦。特に長束正家の追撃や丹波国福知山城(京都府福知山市)攻略に戦功を上げ,恩賞として近江国内に領地を賜った。また伏見城下に居宅を授かり,慶長8(1603)年には家康を迎えている。
