Nambiqwara - Nambiqwara (English spelling)

Japanese: ナンビクワラ - なんびくわら（英語表記）Nambiqwara

An indigenous tribe in the state of Mato Grosso in western Brazil. They were once thought to be nomadic hunter-gatherers, but recent research has suggested that they have semi-permanent villages, around which they cultivate slash-and-burn agriculture during the rainy season, and that they go on hunting and gathering trips in bands during the dry season. The duration of these hunting trips is thought to be much shorter than previously thought. The material culture of the Nambikwara is poorer than that of tribes that live in the rainforest, and they live under harsher living conditions. Each group is formed by a core group of close relatives, mainly siblings, and is small, numbering around 30 people.
