Kitazoe Kitsuma

Japanese: 北添佶磨 - きたぞえきつま

1835-1864 A Sonno Joi activist from the end of the Edo period.
Born in 1830. Village headman of Iwameji Village, Takaoka County, Tosa (Kochi Prefecture). Joined the Tosa Kinno Party. In 1860, he escaped from his domain and inspected Ezo. In 1820, he went to Kyoto, where he was attacked by the Shinsengumi and killed in battle (Ikedaya Incident) while meeting with sonno joi patriots at Ikedaya on June 5th (the first year of the Genji era). He was 30 years old. His name was Masatada. His pseudonym was Motoyama Shichiro.

天保(てんぽう)6年生まれ。土佐(高知県)高岡郡岩目地村の庄屋。土佐勤王党にくわわる。文久3年脱藩し蝦夷(えぞ)地を視察。元治(げんじ)元年京都にいたり,6月5日尊攘派の志士と池田屋で会合中,新選組に襲撃されて闘死(池田屋事件)。30歳。名は正佶(まさただ)。変名は本山七郎。
