Also known as the Narvada River. It originates in the Maikara Ranges of Madhya Pradesh in central India, flows westward, and empties into the Gulf of Khambhat at the southern tip of Gujarat. It is 1,289 km long. Most of the river is a rapids-flowing canyon, and only the lower reaches are navigable. It is a sacred river for Hindus.
