Japanese: ヒロハシ(広嘴) - ヒロハシ（英語表記）broadbill

Any of the birds of the Eurylaimidae family of passerines. This family is considered to be the most primitive group of passerines because of anatomical features such as the syrinx and leg tendons. It consists of 14 species in 8 genera, and is distributed in Africa and southern Asia. Total length is 13-30 cm. As the name suggests, the beak is short and wide. The tip of the upper beak is hooked. The head is large and the body is generally stocky, but some species have long tails. The plumage color varies depending on the species, from all green to dark brown to black head, neck and back with a deep pink belly.

スズメ目ヒロハシ科Eurylaimidaeの鳥の総称。この科は，鳴管や脚の腱などの解剖学上の特徴から，スズメ目の鳥類の中でもっとも原始的なグループと考えられている。8属14種からなり，アフリカと南アジアに分布している。全長13～30cm。名のように，くちばしは短く，幅が広い。上くちばしの先端はかぎ状になっている。頭は大きく，全体にずんぐりした体型をしているが，一部の種では尾が長い。羽色は，全体が緑色のもの，暗褐色のもの，頭頸（とうけい）部と背面は黒くて腹が濃いピンクのものなど，種によってさまざまである。
