A poet of the late Edo period. Commonly known as Genshin. His family name was Kado. Fumio was his Buddhist name. He was the doctor of the Tayasu family. He studied Japanese classics under Kishimoto Yuzuru, and later became a disciple of Ichiyanagi Chifuru. He lived in Edo and established himself as a poet. His essays on poetry include "Ise no Iezutou" (1864). He opposed Kamo no Mabuchi's theory that the "Manyoshu" was the ideal, and supported Kagawa Kageki's theory that the "Kokinshu" was respected. He belonged to the Edo school. His poetry collection "Chokakushu" (1868) contains 917 tanka, 2 linked verse, and 5 choka. His poems include realistic poems such as "Sakurachiri bell leaves spilling, the country road, from here spring will end." He passed away in November 1871. His grave is at Gyokurin-ji Temple in Yanaka, Tokyo.
