Naruko [town] - Naruko
An old town in Tamazukuri County, northwest Miyagi Prefecture. Also called "Nargo". Occupying the upper reaches of the Eai River (Arao River) area, it developed as a hot spring resort known as the Eight Naruko Hot Springs. Its center is a hot spring town with Naruko Onsen (simple springs, 35-100°C) bubbling up, and the Rikuto Line passes through it. It has the Naruko Dam, the artificial Lake Arao, a ski resort, and is a specialty of Kokeshi dolls. In March 2006, it merged with Furukawa City, Matsuyama Town, Sanbongi Town, and Kashimadai Town in Shida County, Iwadeyama Town in Tamazukuri County, and Tajiri Town in Toda County to become a city, Osaki City. 326.10 km2 . 9,138 people (2003).

宮城県北西部,玉造(たまづくり)郡の旧町。〈なるご〉とも。江合(えあい)川上流(荒雄川)地域を占め,鳴子八湯の名で,湯治場として発達してきた。中心は鳴子温泉(単純泉など,35〜100℃)がわく温泉街で,陸羽東(りくうとう)線が通じる。鳴子ダムと人造湖の荒雄湖,スキー場があり,こけしを特産。2006年3月,古川市,志田郡松山町,三本木町,鹿島台町,玉造郡岩出山町,遠田郡田尻町と合併し市制,大崎市となる。326.10km2。9138人(2003)。
