Founder of the Golden Horde. Reigned 1227-55. Second son of Genghis Khan's eldest son, Jochi. Succeeded as Khan after his father's death (1227). In the Mongol invasion of the west that began in 1236, he invaded Russia and Eastern Europe as commander-in-chief, and crushed the European coalition forces at the Battle of Liegnitz in 1241. While conquering Hungary, he learned of the death of Ögedei Khan (1242) and returned his troops, but established the Golden Horde (1243) around his own Sarai settlement in the lower Volga region.

キプチャク･ハーン国の創始者。在位1227‐55年。チンギス･ハーンの長子ジュチの次男。父の死後ハーン位を継承した(1227)。1236年から始まったモンゴル軍の西征では，総大将としてロシア･東欧に侵入し，1241年のリーグニツの戦では，ヨーロッパ連合軍を粉砕した。ハンガリー攻略中に，オゴタイ･ハーンの死を知り(1242)，兵を返したが，自分はボルガ下流域に建設したサライを中心に，キプチャク･ハーン国を建てた(1243)。
