An old town in the eastern part of the Tsugaru Plain, Minamitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture. It was once a strategic location where the Ushu Kaido and Matsumae Kaido roads split. The Ou Main Line, Tohoku Expressway, and National Route 7 pass through the town. It produces a lot of rice and apples. It is home to the ruins of Namioka Castle (historic site), said to have been the residence of the Kitabatake clan. It was incorporated into Aomori City in April 2005. 132.13 km2 .
