parasitic volcano

...A small volcano that appears as if it were parasitic on the flanks of a large composite volcano such as a stratovolcano or a Hawaiian-type shield volcano. The term parasitic volcano was also used, but nowadays the term "parasitic volcano," which does not include the cause of its formation, is more commonly used. Parasitic volcanoes are monogenetic volcanoes that are formed by a single eruption, such as scoria cones, lava domes, pumice cones, and maars.
