The British national theater. The term "national theater" itself generally refers to a theatrical organization centered around a theater that is supported by financial support from the state. The idea of building a national theater in Britain, similar to the Comédie-Française in France, had been proposed as early as the 18th century by D. Garrick and others. However, it was not until 1908 that a construction committee was actually formed. After two world wars, the construction plan was halted, and in 1951 it was decided to build it on a site on the south bank of the River Thames in London.
