Vinegar fly

...A small fly with red eyes that can be seen gathering on rotting fruit or, indoors, on pickle tubs. The English names wine fly, fruit fly, and vinegar fly refer to flies that gather around fermented fruit and vinegar. The Japanese name is said to be derived from the Noh play "shojo," which is a dance performed while drinking sake.
