German mathematician. He studied under C. Gudermann (1798-1851) at the University of Münster, and became a professor at the University of Berlin in 1864. Along with Riemann, he was a pioneer in function theory, and constructed the theory of analytic functions based on the concept of analytic continuation using power series. He also studied irrational numbers, the calculus of variations, geometry, etc., and discovered continuous functions with no differential coefficients. → Related article Kovalevskaya Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
