Nakamagawa River

This river crosses almost all of Iriomote Island, the largest island in the Yaeyama Islands of Okinawa Prefecture, before flowing east and emptying into Sekisei Lagoon. It is 12.3 kilometers long and has a drainage area of ​​32.3 square kilometers. Its source is at Mt. Haegishi, and the upper and middle reaches are canyons surrounded by subtropical forests, with an estuary from the lower reaches to the mouth of the river. The mouth of the river is home to Japan's largest mangrove forest, Hirugi forest, and is part of the Nakamagawa River Natural Protection Area and Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park, making it a tourist destination with tour boats.

沖縄県八重山(やえやま)列島の最大面積をもつ西表島(いりおもてじま)をほぼ横断し、東流して石西礁湖(せきせいしょうこ)に注ぐ河川。延長12.3キロメートル、流域面積32.3平方キロメートル。南風岸(はえぎし)岳に源流部をもち、亜熱帯林に囲まれた峡谷部が上・中流部をなし、下流から河口部にはエスチュアリ（三角江）を呈する。河口部には日本で最大のマングローブ、ヒルギ林が群生し、仲間川天然保護区域および西表石垣国立公園となり、観光船の出る観光地となっている。
