A former town in Kagawa County, southern Kagawa Prefecture. It occupies the northern slope of the Sanuki Mountains and the upper reaches of the Koto River. In addition to rice, it produces vegetables, tea, shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, and other crops, and also engages in forestry. It is home to the long-famous Shionoe Onsen (hydrogen sulfide spring, 18°C), and the Naiba Dam is located nearby.
