A former town in Kagawa County, southern Kagawa Prefecture. It occupies the northern slope of the Sanuki Mountains and the upper reaches of the Koto River. In addition to rice, it produces vegetables, tea, shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, and other crops, and also engages in forestry. It is home to the long-famous Shionoe Onsen (hydrogen sulfide spring, 18°C), and the Naiba Dam is located nearby. 香川県南部,香川郡の旧町。讃岐(さぬき)山脈の北斜面,香東(こうとう)川の上流域を占め,米のほか,野菜,茶,シイタケ,クリなどを産し,林業も行う。古くから有名な塩江温泉(硫化水素泉,18℃)があり,付近には内場(ないば)ダムがある。2005年9月高松市へ編入。80.10km2。3660人(2003)。
