A local feudal lord in Shimotsuke during the Middle Ages. His ancestor was Munemasa, the son of Koyama Masamitsu. Along with Asamasa (Koyama) and Asamitsu (Yuki), Munemasa was one of the three Koyama brothers, and during the Jisho-Juei civil war, he defeated Shida Yoshihiro at the Battle of Noginomiya in Shimotsuke along with Asamasa, and distinguished himself in the pursuit of the Taira clan and the Fujiwara clan of Oshu. In 1213 (Kenpo 1), when rumors spread that the monk Shigeyoshi, the son of Hatakeyama Shigetada, was plotting a rebellion at the foot of Mount Nikko, Munemasa disobeyed orders to arrest him and killed him, incurring the wrath of Shogun Minamoto no Sanetomo. Due to his military achievements during the Jokyu War, he was appointed Shugo of Awaji, and the Ota Bunmei of Awaji Province was created two years later.
