…The division of film history into "pre-Godard" films and "post-Godard" films was even created by Henri Langlois of the Cinémathèque Française and film historian Luigi Chiarini. Marcel Duchamp praised Alphaville (1965), which depicts a future society controlled by computers, as a "masterpiece of cybernetic film," and Aragon praised Pierrot le Fou (1965) as a "masterpiece of collage." It is probably the first time since Chaplin that film has excited artists in other fields to this extent. …
