A town in Kumage County, central Tanegashima, Kagoshima Prefecture. Occupying a hilly plateau, the town is known for its sugarcane, sweet potatoes, tea, and other field crops, and also for sugar refining and livestock farming. The main settlement is Noma, located almost in the center of the town. Tanegashima Airport is located here. Area: 137.18 km2 . Population: 8,696 (2010).
