A socialist movement during World War I. Its name comes from a conference held in Zimmerwald, Switzerland in 1915. When World War I broke out, the major parties of the Second International supported the war, causing division and turmoil in the international socialist movement. To deal with this situation, anti-war socialists gathered together, but the right-wing and moderate factions were in the majority, and they were able to overcome the minority (Zimmerwald left wing) led by Lenin, who wanted to transform the imperialist war into a civil war, and only resolved to oppose the imperialist war and to end the war as soon as possible. After the Russian Revolution, the left wing pursued its own path, and the group was dissolved with the establishment of Comintern. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
