Year of death: September 24, 1939 (Showa 14) Year of birth: October 3, 1870 (October 27, 1870) Founder of the Japan Holiness Church. Born in Hirosaki (Hirosaki City) in Mutsu Province. Encouraged by his mother Chiyo, he went to a Christian lecture hall (Hirosaki Church). He was baptized by missionary GF Draper. The date is unknown. He was educated at To-o Gijuku. He then moved to Tokyo and studied theology at Tokyo Eiwa Gakko (Aoyama Gakuin). Although he was unable to graduate, he worked as a missionary in various places, including Otaru in Hokkaido and Etorofu Island. In 1897 (Meiji 30), he traveled to the United States and studied at Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago. After returning to Japan, he became a traveling Methodist missionary, but later left the church. In 1917 (Taisho 6), he became the first bishop of the Japan Holiness Church of the Oriental Missionary Society, and did his best to develop the denomination. The following year, he became immersed in the "Second Advent Movement" with Uchimura Kanzo and Kimura Seimatsu. In 1936 (Showa 11), he became independent and organized the "Kiyome Church."
