An old town in Kuwana County, northern Mie Prefecture. It occupies a low, humid ring-shaped area between the Kiso River and the Nagara River, which flow into Ise Bay, and has water houses and creeks. Nagashima, in the center, is an old castle town famous for the Nagashima Ikki (Ikko Ikki), and is served by the Kansai Main Line, the Tomei-Osaka Expressway, National Route 1, and the Kintetsu Nagoya Line. Rice, vegetable cultivation, and seaweed farming are thriving. Nagashima Onsen (simple alkaline spring, 60°C) at the southern end is a recreational spot in the Chukyo region. In December 2004, it was incorporated into Tado Town, Kuwana County, and Kuwana City. ^{31.73 km2} . Population: 15,503 (2003).

A town in Izumi District, Kagoshima Prefecture, including Nagashima and nearby small islands. Its main industries are agriculture and fishing, with citrus, beans, and potatoes being cultivated vigorously. Livestock farming is also practiced. The northern part is included in Unzen-Amakusa National Park, and a ferry boat runs from Kuranomoto to Ushibuka City (now Amakusa City) on Amakusa Shimoshima, and the Kuronoseto Bridge connects the town to the mainland. In March 2006, Higashi Town, Izumi District, was incorporated and the town hall became the former Higashi Town Hall. 116.13 ^km2 . Population 11,105 (2010).

三重県北部，桑名郡の旧町。伊勢湾に注ぐ木曾川と長良川にはさまれた低湿な輪中(わじゅう)を占め，水屋，クリークなどがみられる。中心の長島は長島一揆(いっき)（一向(いっこう)一揆）で有名な旧城下町で，関西本線，東名阪自動車道，国道１号線，近鉄名古屋線が通じる。米作，野菜栽培，ノリ養殖が盛ん。南端の長島温泉（アルカリ性単純泉，60℃）は中京の娯楽地。2004年12月桑名郡多度町と桑名市へ編入。31.73km²。１万5503人（2003）。

鹿児島県出水(いずみ)郡，長島と付近の小島を含む町。農漁業が主産業で，ミカン，豆類，イモ類などの栽培が盛ん。畜産も行う。北部は雲仙天草国立公園に含まれ，蔵之元から天草下島の牛深市（現・天草市）へフェリーボートが通じ，本土との間に黒之瀬戸大橋がかかる。2006年３月出水郡東町を編入し，町役場を旧東町役場とした。116.13km²。１万1105人（2010）。
