A town in Yama District, northern Fukushima Prefecture. It is surrounded by mountain ranges, including Mt. Agatsuma to the north, Mt. Adatara and Mt. Otaki to the east, and Mt. Bandai to the west. The southern shore of Lake Inawashiro is a basin with open rice fields. The town is served by the Ban'etsu West Line and the Ban'etsu Expressway, and small towns have developed in Inawashiro, Kawageta, and Okishima. Rice, tomatoes, and green beans are produced here. The northern half of the town is part of Bandai-Asahi National Park, and the Inawashiro Ski Resort is located at the southern foot of Mt. Bandai. Hideyo Noguchi's birthplace is on Sanjogata Lagoon.
