Nikaho is an old town in Yuri District facing the Sea of Japan in the southwest of Akita Prefecture. The Uetsu Main Line runs through the town. The coast is covered with large paddy fields, making it a rice-growing region with advanced land improvement work. The fishing industry produces salmon, cod, and Atka mackerel. The electronics industry is thriving, with many factories and related businesses. In October 2005, it merged with the towns of Kanaura and Kisakata in Yuri District to become Nikaho City. 秋田県南西部，日本海に面する由利郡の旧町。羽越本線が通じる。海岸部は水田が広く，土地改良の進んだ米作地域をなす。漁業ではサケ，タラ，ホッケを産する。電子産業が盛んで，工場や関連事業所も多い。2005年10月，由利郡金浦町，象潟町と合併し市制，にかほ市となる。98.51km2。１万2015人（2003）。
