A perennial plant of the Umbelliferae family (APG classification: Umbelliferae). The stems are magnificent, reaching a height of 3 meters. The leaves are 2-3 times tripinnate and compound. The upper leaves degenerate into reddish-brown sheaths. The flowers bloom in August in large compound umbels, many of which are white. The fruits are broadly elliptical with broad wings. They grow in mountain grasslands and are distributed in Honshu north of the Chubu region, Hokkaido, Karafuto (Sakhalin), the Kuril Islands, and other areas.
